Just then a woman (who had never been seen at the vigil) suddenly appeared and asked if she could pray for the boy and his baby and girlfriend. (You can listen to part of the prayer on this video.) Continue reading →
From our very first 40 day vigil, over 7 years ago, we witnessed a decline in the number of surgical abortions committed locally. During subsequent vigils, that decline continued, with the total number of abortions eventually dropping by at least 60%. We even heard reports from FPA staff documenting the sharp drop in local abortions. As abortions decreased, our hopes and prayers for a complete end to abortion in Bakersfield increased.
But in recent months, the FPA abortion business has restructured and rebounded, becoming more and more busy, fueled by Obamacare and many new non-abortion services (as can be seen on FPA’s website, fpawomenshealth.com). Continue reading →
Please begin praying now for Simopoulos, using scriptures such as Psalm 94, especially verse 9:
He who planted the ear, shall He not hear?
He who formed the eye, shall He not see?
Perhaps as Simopoulos sees the tiny ears and eyes of the babies he aborts, God will convict his hardened heart as he realizes that one tiny baby’s eye is ample evidence that God is much more powerful than the most capable plastic surgeon.
More details on Simopoulos and his troubled past…
(Please note: we always encourage all vigil participants to obey all laws, and we do not condone kidnapping or auto theft!)
After a desperate effort to save a young mom and her baby from forced abortion, Terri Palmquist feared she would face charges of kidnapping and grand theft auto.St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) was an abortion day at Bakersfield’s FPA abortion chamber, so vigil participants stood in various places along the sidewalk, each praying for an opportunity to make a final offer of life to any they might encounter planning a child’s death. Terri stood near the alley, focusing on putting up memorial crosses whenever she saw post-abortion women exiting with empty wombs.
The FPA parking lot was full, so when a car parked next to the crosses, Terri was not surprised to see a teenage girl in the passenger seat. Terri approached the car just as the girl (we’ll call her “Jennie”) was getting out. As the door opened, Terri smiled at Jennie and quietly said “Hi, my name is Terri; if you are dealing with an unplanned pregnancy, I’m here to help.” Terri thought that Jennie appeared to be about 17 years old.

She was a longtime member of a pro-life Evangelical church, having heard her pastors preach against abortion many times. She had also been a client of a local pro-life pregnancy center, benefiting from their services with her previous pregnancies. But this pregnancy was different for “Opal.” In the midst of divorce proceedings, Opal discovered that she was pregnant — and her husband is not the father. To make matters worse, she was having financial problems, only being able to find occasional work as a substitute teacher.
She was too embarrassed to tell her pastor or her friends at the pro-life pregnancy center about the pregnancy. So she made an appointment for an abortion, knowing that by doing so she was planning to kill her own child.
When she arrived at Bakersfield’s FPA abortion chamber on Monday morning, she saw a group of Catholics praying outside. For some of these Catholics, it was the very first time that they had prayed outside an abortion chamber, and now they were standing face to face with a woman whose baby was about to be killed. With tears in their eyes, these first-time vigil participants expressed their desire to help Opal find a job so that she can keep her baby.
