Quiet words and amazing ultrasound change hard hearts
Afraid to disappoint her father, 17-year-old “Rene” scheduled an abortion when she learned that she was pregnant. Her mother drove her from their hometown to Bakersfield’s abortion center on February 23, but before they could enter they encountered a group of Christians praying outside. Soon Rene would be watching in amazement as the tiny child in her womb waved at her from an ultrasound screen.
The day Rene planned to abort her baby happened to be the first Bakersfield abortion day of the Spring 2010 40 Days for Life campaign. Both Rene and her mother seemed to have very hard hearts when the prayer volunteers first tried to talk to them. Rene explained that she is the youngest of five children and her father thought that she was still a virgin.
Although Rene and her mother listened for several minutes, they seemed to have no change in their attitude. When it looked like they were about to walk past the prayer group into the abortion center, someone placed rosary beads in Rene’s hand, held her hand closed and quietly said “don’t be afraid — trust in God.”
When Rene heard this, her heart seemed to change as tears began rolling down her cheeks. But Rene’s mother continued to appear hardened.
Arrangements were quickly made for Rene and her mother to view the baby by ultrasound. The ultrasound technician at the pregnancy center which usually provides free ultrasounds was on vacation, so Rene was brought to an office where LifeSavers Ministries paid for an ultrasound.
As Rene’s mother watched the perfectly formed body of her grandchild on the ultrasound screen, she began to cry. The baby’s tiny feet and hands were clearly visible on the screen, and the baby even waved at his mother and grandmother!

I’m praying that all these women that even think about abortion realize what a blessing they are given when they conceive a child - under ANY circumstances. Some of us arent as lucky to be blessed with motherhood.
